Top 3 Immigration Programs for 2022
- Express Entry: Provincial Nomination
Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which has 11 participating provinces, also has various programs that allow candidates with Express Entry profiles to be selected for permanent residency, especially if they have in demand skills and have expressed interest in moving to a particular province or territory.
Some provinces also have occupation-specific programs that make it easier for skilled workers to get permanent residency (PR) in Canada. For example, three PNPs have tech immigration programs, which focus on bringing in highly-skilled tech talent to Canada from across the globe.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is a system that ranks individuals according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) based on factors like your age, education, work experience, language skills and ability to settle in Canada. Your points are then tallied and you will receive a CRS score. The higher your score, the higher your chances of being selected to apply for Canada PR in the bi-weekly Express Entry draws.
A provincial nomination is worth 600 CRS or PR points, and seeing as you can only score a maximum of 1,200 points, having a Provincial Nomination (PN) significantly increases your chances of being successful in your application. This makes applying for PR through the PNP one of the top ways to immigrate to Canada in 2022.

Before the pandemic, all three immigration programs managed by the Express Entry System were the top ways to get Canadian permanent residency. The past year, however, has shown a significant change in the applicant selection process.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is currently focused on issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for PR to those with Provincial Nominations (PNs) and job offers in Canada. This is because newcomers usually find it a lot easier to settle in if they have job security, which is extremely important when adjusting to a new environment.
2. Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) (recently made a permanent program) was originally created to help grow the economy of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces:
- New Brunswick
- Newfoundland & Labrador
- Nova Scotia
- Prince Edward Island
Each province has its own specific labour market needs, for example registered nurses are highly in demand in Nova Scotia, whereas tech professionals are in high demand in provinces like Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia.
Keep in Mind
The best place to start when wanting to move to Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Immigration Program is to choose your province based not only on where you’d like to live but where you’ll be able to find a job. You’ll need a job offer from a designated company or business in one of the four provinces mentioned above to apply for PR through the AIP. You’ll also need to meet the following requirements to qualify for the AIP:
- Have at least 1,560 hours of relevant work experience (full or part-time) in a job that is classified as intermediate
- (NOC C) to high skilled (NOC 0, A and B); or
- Have a qualification (study program must be at least a 2-year program) from an institution in one of the 4 Atlantic
- provinces and have lived there for at least 16 months in the 2-year period before graduation; and
- Have a job offer in 1 of Canada’s 4 Atlantic provinces;
- Meet the minimum language requirements for your job skill level;
- CLB/NCLC 5 for NOC 0, A and B
- CLB/NCLC 4 for NOC C
- Have sufficient finances to support yourself and your family when you get to Canada
3. Global Talent Stream
The Global Talent Stream (GTS) was created to help highly-skilled and experienced tech professionals find a pathway to Canada. There are two different categories under the GTS.
- Category A is for eligible applicants that have been referred by a designated partner of the Global Talent Stream; or
- Category B is for highly-skilled and experienced workers listed on the Global Talent Occupations List that have a referral.
Employers will need to apply on your behalf. The job offer will also need to meet the minimum wage requirements for your respective occupation.

British Columbia Tech Pilot
